Student Athletes

For the student athletes, it is important to understand first that you are first a student and then an athlete. Everybody may dream about the professional arena, whether in football, basketball, soccer or cheerleading.

It does not matter, when it comes to school, the playing field is the same. In order to qualify to compete and participate, you will have to meet certain criteria to be eligible to play.

There is always a grade point average consideration. So, it is wise to develop and practice good study habits. Read and increase your vocabulary. Do your homework. Pass your tests. Study your assignments and then, practice and participate in the sports you have selected.

You will still have to take the same tests (PSAT, SAT, or ACT). You will still have to have an acceptable grade point average of 2.0, for most schools, in order to be eligible.

When you are approaching your junior and senior years of high school, you want to be particularly aware of what the academic compliance criteria are for the schools you have as your top choices. Speak regularly with your guidance counselors to make sure you are on the right course.

Additionally to compliment your academic experience and supplement your athletic history, you may need and/or enjoy additional opportunities that will boost you a level higher as your plan your future.
